What we do

Energy assessments

On-site AssessmentsBlower Door TestComprehensive Assessment Report

An energy assessment is a necessary step in retrofitting your home. That’s where we come in. Algoma Ecohome Inc. will send a professional energy advisor to your home to conduct an onsite assessment. While we’re conducting the assessment, we’ll help determine if you qualify for any federal or provincial rebate programs such as the Home Efficiency Rebate by Enbridge Or Greener Homes Grants. These rebates will help offset the costs of retrofitting your home. During the audit, our advisor inspects the attic insulation, walls insulation, windows, basement, and the mechanical systems in your home (furnace, water heater, and air conditioning). We’ll conduct a blower door test and provide you with a comprehensive assessment report, which we’ll use to determine the necessary steps in retrofitting your home.

While conducting our on-site assessment, our experts will also perform a blower door test. This test is designed to measure the amount of air leakage in your home. This test is an important part of the energy audit as it helps us determine how much draft-proofing might be needed to improve the comfort of your home.

Once the audit is complete, you’ll receive a comprehensive assessment report of your home’s building science, which our energy advisor will walk you through to ensure you understand it. This overview will help determine how to increase the comfort of your home and reduce your energy consumption. By retrofitting your home and making it more energy efficient, you can save up to 40 per cent on your annual energy bill while also increasing the value of your home. We prioritize your understanding of this report and that’s why we ensure this process is accessible and easy-to-understand for homeowners. Our advisor walks you through the assessment and educates you on your home’s building science. It’s our priority to equip you with this knowledge to help build confidence when it comes to making important decisions about how to improve your home. Our team’s extensive knowledge of residential building science also ensures the delivery of high-quality insulation projects both efficiently and effectively.

Services

Insulation services

Professionals

We will provide high-quality and durable insulation when retrofitting your home

Our team of insulation experts provide high quality and long-lasting insulation when retrofitting your home. We offer cellulose and fibreglass insulation. The cellulose insulation we use is made of eco-friendly and recycled materials while also being fire resistant and designed to deter animals.
It’s important to us for our services to be accessible and within a homeowner’s budget, which is why we use materials that are inexpensive without sacrificing their efficacy or reliability.
Every upgrade we make is agreed upon and decided during the energy assessment conducted by our advisor, ensuring you’re involved every step of the way.
Our insulation services come with extensive air-sealing throughout your home, resulting in reduced air leakage.
These insulation services include the following:

Blown-in Cellulose

Blown-in cellulose insulation is both efficient and highly effective when it comes to insulating your home’s attic. The material we use for blown-in cellulose has a simple, fast, and highly effective insulation process all while being eco-friendly.
This insulation is a popular option for homeowners because the cellulose fibres are plant-based and typically made of recycled newspapers. The cellulose fibres meet the safety requirements to be considered fire retardant and are odorless. Our team of technicians will blow these cellulose fibres into your attic or into your walls to form a dense pack of insulation if necessary

Basement Batt Insulation

Basement insulation heavily influences the overall comfort of your entire home. It’s important to insulate your basement whether you plan on finishing it or not. By insulating your basement, you’ll increase the comfort of your home and reduce your energy consumption during the summer and winter months.
Our technicians use a fibreglass blanket-wrap insulation for basements and crawl space, which prevents air leakage and minimizes moisture accumulation in your basement.

Dense-pack Cellulose

Dense-pack cellulose is the best option for wall insulation as it slows air flow through the walls, which ultimately makes your house cheaper and easier to heat and cool. The insulation process is quick, the insulation is effective and reliable, and is a cost-effective option for homeowners as a result.

Air-sealing and Draft-proofing

During our on-site assessment, our auditor will have completed a blower door test. The results from this test help determine how much – if any – air-sealing is required in retrofitting your home.
When your doors and windows aren’t sealed properly it allows for drafts from outside to come in and air from inside to escape through the improperly sealed areas. When a homeowner feels a draft, they instinctively increase the heat to eliminate that feeling. This only results in an increased utility bill and doesn’t solve the problem at all.
Our team solves this issue by air sealing your doors and windows as necessary using spray foam, caulking, and weatherstripping. Air sealing helps to ensure your home stays raft-free and comfortable.
